ST.BEDE’S CENTENARY SPORTS DAY 2007-2008

The Centenary Sports Day of St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School was celebrated with much pomp, splendour, grandeur and acclaim on 24th August 2007. Even though the sky was overcast, crowds of parents, special guests and invitees turned up in large numbers awaiting the arrival of the chief guest.The Chief Guest of the day Mr. D. Mukherjee, I.P.S., Director General of Police,  Police Headquarters – Tamil Nadu, arrived at 9.00 a.m. in his splendidly immaculate uniform. He was accorded a guard of honour by the members of the J.R.C., Scouts and N.S.S. volunteers of our school. At the very outset a prayer song was sung by the school choir titled “Keep me in the hollow of thy hand”.

           

This was followed by a colourful resplendent march past by the contingents drawn from the four houses of the school namely Lions, Tigers, Eagles and Hawks and the school band.As the sky cleared up, the flag of St. Bede’s was unfurled by the chief guest and the school anthem was sung by all the students  Then everyone awaited with abated breath for the much acclaimed aerobic dance performed by around 400 boys drawn from classes VIII, IX and XI. The Tune and words “Vandhe Matharam” which echoed at the dawn of Indian Independence reverbrated in the school grounds as the boys performed a splendid dance choreographed by Mr. Leo, Mr. Ravi and Mr. Kamesh.
The Chief Guest in his speech commended the efforts of the management and the students and exhorted them to work for the benefit of society.
Mr. Gurbinder Rattha, (Managing Director of “Rattha Group of Companies) an old student of St. Bede’s gave away the trophies to the winners of various athletic events which were held that day.
The march past trophy was won by the Lions House. The trophy for the best disciplined house went to the Tigers House. The best cheering house trophy was bagged by the Eagles House. The trophy for the best decorated tent was won by the Hawks House. The overall team championship went to the Lions House. The programme came to an end at 1.00 p.m. with the lowering of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.
