CENTENARY BLOOD DONATION CAMP
St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Santhome is celebrating centenary of its inception in this academic session 2007 - 2008. A variety of events and activities are on the cards as part of the year long celebrations. The Centenary year celebrations were launched with a Holy Mass in the last academic year itself. The first event of the Centenary year with an emphasis on Social Awareness was a Blood Donation Camp organized in the campus on Saturday 23.06.2007.

The social work committee of the institution had already done a well planned groundwork by informing the teachers and parents and obtaining their consent. The response was overwhelming with more than two hundred parents of the institution thronging the auditorium of the school where the camp was held.

The Centenary Blood Donation Camp was formally started with a function presided over by Dr. Mrs. Vethakumari, YVK Hospitals, Mandaveli, Chennai. She said that blood donation is a noble deed and appreciated the management for making it a part of the Centenary celebrations. She nostalgically remembered the times when she was in dire need of blood when afflicted with cancer. She appealed to the audience to donate blood at least two times a year and save unknown and precious lives. Rev. Fr. Joe Andrew SDB, Rector and Correspondent remarked in his speech that care was taken to ensure that the donated blood goes to the poor and the needy. Rev. Fr. V. Michael SDB, Headmaster appreciated the efforts of the Social Work Committee. Dr. Ravindran and his team of officials from the Blood Bank of Government KMC Hospital, Kilpauk, Chennai - 600 010 had made all the arrangements for the smooth running of the Blood Bank. Rev. Fr. Thomas SDB, the Administrator of the School had arranged the amenities for the camp and the event begun soon after the vote of thanks of Mrs. S. Geetha.

ST.BEDE'S CENTENARY SUMERU SOFT CRICKET TOURNAMENT
As part of the Centenary Celebrations of St. Bede's launched Inter-school Sports carnival in the academic year 2007-2008. Interschool Cricket Tournament was organized for both categories Under 13 and 15 age group of boys of the City schools under the banner of St. Bede's Centenary Sumeru Soft Cricket Tournament. Eight Teams were in the fray which began on 2nd July, 2007in the St. Bede's Grounds. The teams of Santhome Higher Secondary School and St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School reached the finals which was played in the M. A. Chindambaram Stadium at chepauk on Monday the 23rd July, 2007. In the 35 overs game St. Bede's chose to bat and notched up a total of 115 runs. Our school student and dthe teachers were witnessing nail biting spells and moments of the entire game in the stadium. In the exciting match Santhome School won with just one delivery to spare. Mr. Palani, our Old beadean and our close lay collaborator being the member of TNCA and incharge of St. Bede's Cricket academy had been the spinal cord for making this mega venture as a remarkable event. Master B. Rahul was adjudged the Man of the match. Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu, Provincial of the Salesians, Chennai presided over the impressive Prize Distribution Ceremony. Mr. N. Srinivasan, President of TNCA and honorary Treasure of BCCI was the Chief Guest. Former India Cricketers A. G. Milkha Singh and V. B. Chadnrasekhar and former students of St. Bede's graced the occasion.

CENTENARY INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT ON 19.07.2007
St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Santhome, Chennai - 600 004 is celebrating its Centenary Year in the academic session of 2007-08. As a part of the year long celebration an Interschool Football Tournament was conducted on Thursday the 19th July 2007 in the St.Bede's Ground behind all India Radio.

Rev. Fr. Paulraj Maniam, Headmaster, St. Mary's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Armenian Street, Chennai 600 001 presided over the Inaugural Function and started the tournament. He applauded the efforts of the management of St.Bede's School in bringing about a holistic and value based education. Rev. Fr. Joe Andrew, Rector & Correspondent of St.Bede's welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Michael, Headmaster, St.Bede's urged players to put in their best efforts. Fourteen teams from reputed city schools were in the fray. They were locked in an exciting competition of skills. The tournament was conducted in a knock out basis and National Public School, Vidya mandir, sishya and st. bede's qualified for the semi finals and Sishya and st. Bede's entered the finals. They were in a draw with a score of 1 -1 and the penalty kicks in the tiebreaker clinched the tournament in favour of Sishya school. St. Bede's was the runners up. Mas Mathew Stephens was adjudged the Best player of the tournament.

Dr. Neelamegam M.S., of the Apollo Hospitals and an alumnus of St.Bede's presided over the simple and elegant valedictory function. Mr. Gerard, Physical Director of St.Bede's School welcomed the gathering. Dr. Neelamegam gave away the trophies, certificates and the cash awards to the winners and runners up. He fondly reminisced about his days in St.Bede's, the school of their hearts and congratulated the management on its untiring efforts for achieving excellence in all fields.

ST. BEDE'S BAKETBALL AND TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENTS
As a part of the year long celebration of the Centenary Year, Interschool Basketball and Table Tennis Tournaments were conducted on Tuesday the 24th July and Wednesday 25th July 2007 in the St. Bede's Campus. Twenty-two teams were eagerly eying on the envious trophies to claim the ownership of it.

Mr. Robinson Nathan, a renowned captain of Indian basketball team and the first to play league matches abroad presided over the Inaugural Function and started the tournament. He urged the students to give more importance to sports and games. He remembered how he began his career as a football player and switched over to basketball later realizing his talents and advised the boys to choose a game wisely.

Rev. Fr. Joe Andrew, Rector & Correspondent of St.Bede's welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Michael, Headmaster and Rev. Fr. Thomas, Administrator presented mementos to the chief guest. More than twenty teams from reputed city schools participated in the basketball and table tennis tournaments.

In the Basketball Tournament St. Peter's, La Chateline, Santhome Hr. Sec. and Balavidya Mandir School reached the semi finals. St. Peter's and Santhome Hr. Sec. Schools qualified for the finals. St. Peter's School dominated the match from the beginning and posted an impressive victory and won the Trophy.

Santhome Hr. Sec. and St. Bede's clashed in the finals of the Table Tennis tournament. The Table Tennis team of Santhome HSS comprising of Vivek Prasad, Senthil Kumar and Kishore Kumar won the finals and lifted the trophy.

Mr. Sarath Kamal winner of the prestigious Arjuna Award for Table Tennis and presently the Asst. Manager of IOC presided over the prize distribution function. We thank the sports committee and the two physical Directors Mr. Gerard and Mr. Edwin for their commended and untiring efforts along with other teachers of our school to make this event a very memorable one to all the participants and the students. We have still many more things in the array of centenary celebrations Interschool volley ball, Hockey, Tennis will be on 30th and 31st July and Athletics on 13th August at Nehru Stadium at Chennai. Besides sports carnival fever of our celebrations, the management has planned other social, cultural, spiritual and recreational events at various months of this academic year.
