The function started on schedule with the arrival of the chief guest a thunderous applause of the audience of more than a four thousand comprising of the staff, students and parents of St. Bede’s, Rosary Matriculation School, St. Raphael’s School, Santhome Higher Secondary School , St. Antony’s School and St. Isabel’s Hospital. The charm of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam electrified the young audience with whom he freely mingled ignoring the barriers of safety and serenity. The function began with a prayer song titled “lead me on” rendered by Mr. Keith and his enthusiastic chair members. Rev. Fr. Joe Andrew SDB, Rector & Correspondent delivered the welcome address. He recounted the achievement of the eminent guest and concluded with a fervent prayer written by none other than Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. The Archbishop of Madras Mylapore Most Rev. Dr. A. M. Chinnappa Welcomed the chief Guest by donning a shawl and Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu SDB, Provincial, Presented a Memento.
The institution paid its rich gravitate to all the Rectors and Correspondents who have rendered their yeoman service for the growth of the School. They were presented with a memento by the Chief Guest as a token of love and affection. The former Rectors & Correspondent were Fr. John Peter Sathyaraj, Fr. Stanislaus Fernandez, Fr. V. V. Abraham and the Headmasters Fr. Berkmans, Fr. A. M. Mathew, Fr. Santhosh, Fr. K. J. Antony, Fr. Francis Xavier, & Mr. Neil D’ Coto, some of the special invites who have worked tirelessly for the success of the centenary celebrations were also honored with the presents of memento by the chief Guest. They are Dr. M. Venkatesan, Mr. Kumar Sitaraman (Construction), Mr. Palani (Sports & Games) Mr. R.S. Murali OBA, Mr. Iyappan, Mr. Lionel Hugget and Master. Emmanuel Elavarasan the past pupil who won laurels in the international chemistry Olympiad.
As a highlight of the function a special postal cover was released in commemoration of the Centenary of St. Bede’s. Mrs. Indira Krishnakumar, Principal Chief Post Master General, Tamilnadu Circle officially released it and handed over the first Cover to the Chief Guest.
