Leadership training programme 2010-2011

The system of appointing student prefects is an innovative measure practiced in all Don Bosco institutions. The student leaders are given a welcome opportunity of getting training in leadership and are allowed to experience the hardships associated with such a responsibility. However, being a leader among one’s own peers might prove to be a heavy burden on the young shoulders of these students if they are uninitiated. Considering this, Leadership Training programme are organized every year for these young leaders, in our institution

The student leaders of the St. Bede’s comprising of the SPL, VSPL, house captions, vice captions, class house captions, secretaries of different clubs and groups, class monitors and vice monitors attended the leadership training programme on Thursday the 9th August 2007. The leaders were divided into two groups of classes VI to IX and X to XII. The animators were Fr. Harris, director of DBICA, Brother Vincent and Mrs. Camila for the senior groups and Mr. Rajesh and his team from DB Vazhikatti for the juniors.

Seminar schedule had thorough planned homework for the programme outlined the motives of the session with the introduction of the resource persons. The young leaders were instructed about the qualities of a leader, SWOT analysis and the pitfalls to be avoided in an interesting and interactive sessions. The seemingly hilarious group activities that followed were an eye opener for the participants which threw light on our subconscious minds being the cane for most of our actions.
The afternoon session was totally devoted for drafting an action plan and putting the motivated ideas into concrete with practical use. Brother Leo and Mr. Valan Arasu led the juniors in their deliberations while Bro. Merwin and Mr. Gregory were the moderators for the brain storming session of the seniors.

Each and every aspect of the campus life that need to be improved was discussed in an openhearted manner with most of the participants offering their views – some sparkling with art and humour, some showing an incisive analysis of the particular problem, some gems of profound wisdom and of course some totally impractical. The students took up a wide variety of the areas of the life in the campus such as Academics, Discipline, cleanliness, behavior of the students during break and lunch time, Punctuality and the ills of late coming, methods of punishment and deterrent steps, maintaining silence, the league system, notice boards, behavior during the assembly and last but not the least the Rule of language in the campus.

All the concrete suggestions were put in black and white. It was decided to have a monthly meeting of the leaders for a follow up and review.
