Fr. Joe Andrew, highlighted the theme of gratitude, gratitude to God for Don Bosco. It is because of Don Bosco that we are today celebrating 100 years of service. We thanked God and offered to Him the Centenary celebrations and the coming hundred years. Fr. Joe Andrew highlighted the fact that St. Bede's stands as living monument of glorious service in Santhome. It is a landmark in the city because it has served the youth of this city, in particular, Anglo-Indians in an extraordinary way. During the Holy Eucharist the St. Bede's choir sang with their hearts and praised God for the wonders He has done. There was a special offertory procession with gifts made up of religious articles (mass vestments, holy vessels etc.) to be given to a poor parish. This was an act of gratitude on the part of the teachers who wanted to thank God and his Church for all the great things accomplished during these years.
Beginning of the centenary celebrations
After the solemn Holy Eucharist we witnessed a colourful cultural programme. This was a combo-fest: Don Bosco's feast, Community Day and inauguration of the Centenary year. Fr. Rector, Fr. Headmaster and some senior teachers lit the Kuthuvizhaku as a sign of God's presence during this important year. Mr. Scarlet Fernando and Mrs. Jennifer Nicholas, the retiring teachers then released a dove as a symbol of the beginning of a new journey, a new era in St. Bede's. Every jubilee is a moment of thanksgiving and a time of re-launching. Fr. Michael, the headmaster, welcomed the gathering and spoke of the miracle we call Don Bosco. The boys then waited with a sense of joy and curiosity for the teachers' event, the highlight of every community day. They were not let down. They enjoyed the variety of dances performed by the teachers. Each dance also had a theme saying that we need love, forgiveness, solidarity, peace and enthusiasm to build up a new community. Fr. Rector concluded by saying that it will be a special year of blessing, celebrations and competitions. The celebrations will come to an end on the feast of Don Bosco in the year 2008. He said that we are planning for the grand finale of the centenary year from 24th January to 26th January 2008. He concluded with a song: "I believe in you".
