GENERAL INFORMATION
St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Founded in 1907, is recognised under the code of Regulations of Anglo-Indian Schools Tamil Nadu vide, Dis No.2336/29 dated 29th May 1929 of the Director of Public Instruction, Madras-6. From 1956 onwards it is conducted by the Salesians of Don Bosco. It is a minority school.
The School has a Boarding House intended for Catholic Anglo - Indian Boys.

The institution aims primarily at providing a through Catholic Education to Anglo-Indian and Catholic boys.

OBJECTIVES AND METHOD
- The aim of the school is to develop the character and the personality of each pupil by imparting Sound Education, based on Christian principles using the Preventive System of Don Bosco.
- The harmonious development of mind and body is effected by suitable Religious, Moral, Intellectual, Social and Physical education involving a variety of Curricular and Co-curricular activities.

SCHOOL MOTTO
- The School Motto is "DOCE NOS VIAM BONAM" which means "TEACH US THE RIGHT WAY". The boy who attends St.Bede's is expected to learn the best way of performing his duties to God, family, School, Society, Country and the Environment and make always a conscious choice of the right way throughout life, even amidst the confusing signals of a rudderless world around.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
- The School Uniform consists of white short - sleeved shirt, Grey shorts / long trousers and school tye, school ID card black shoes and black socks.

CLASS HOURS
- The morning session of the class is from 8.30 a.m. to 12.10 p.m. and afternoon session from 12.45 p.m. to 3.35 p.m.
- Unless or otherwise indicated in the calendar or announced, the School works from Monday to Friday during the week.

HOUSE SYSTEM
- In order to foster healthy rivalry and keen competition in all curricular and co-curricular activities of the school, the house system is followed. Every pupil is a member of one of the four Houses into which the school is divided.
- Quiz, Debates, Dramatics, Fashion show, Fancy dress, Elocution, Dance, Music, Drawing Competitions etc., are conducted on house basis. Points are awarded to the houses that excel in sports, cultural activities and academics and the winning house is presented with a trophy.
The co-curricular activities include the NSS, the JRC, Scouting and Cubing, YCS, YSM, the Science, the Dramatic, Music, Photographic and environmental clubs and the literary associations.

EXAMINATIONS
- There are three examinations and two midterm tests in the course of the year.
- Progress Reports of the pupils are given to the parents after each examination. For promotion at the end of the year, the whole year's work is taken into consideration and the annual examinations.
- Hall Tickets will be issued to pupils well in advance before TESTS/ EXAMINATIONS. No pupil without the Hall ticket will be permitted to sit for TESTS/ EXAMINATIONS. In case a student has lost his Hall Ticket, the matter is to be reported to the Headmaster.
- FEE DEFAULTERS will be neither issued Hall Tickets nor allowed to sit for the Examinations. They will be marked "ABSENT" and no application for Medical or any other leave will be accepted on their behalf. Their absence will not be condoned.
- Pupils absent from Examinations / Tests without the permission of the Headmaster will be given Zero for each paper they are absent for.
- Pupils who are caught copying during any test or examinations may be detained or asked to leave the School, irrespective of their academic performance.
- No book or paper of any kind is to be brought to the Examination Hall by the pupils. Every pupil should have the required writing / drawing materials and no lending or borrowing is permitted in the Examination Hall.
- Absolute Silence is to be maintained in the examination hall. Pupils who make use of unfair means during examination will be severely dealt with at the discretion of the Headmaster. Those who help others in anyway to have recourse to unfair means will also be dealt with in the same manner.

PRIVATE TUITION
- The School does not encourage Private Tuition. No student should have any teacher of the School for tuition outside the school premises. Parents, who are desirous of arranging Private Tuition at school, shall do so through the Headmaster. Students who do not adhere to this rule may be asked to leave the school.
- No new tuition will be allowed for the Current School Year after February 15th.
- The Headmaster reserves to himself the right to stop tuitions without assigning a reason.

GENERAL
- The school accepts no responsibility if, through failure in wearing the school uniform or in bringing books to class or signature of parents of remarks written by teacher or on the absence record in the Handbook, the pupil is obliged to return home during class hours. The school cannot be held responsible for accidents, minor or serious to pupils during school hours.
- Utmost care will be taken by the School Authorities for the safety of the pupils during picnic, excursions, camps etc. However the School cannot be held responsible for accidents, minor or serious to pupils during the above mentioned activities.
