PRAYER BEFORE CLASS
DIRECT* we beseech you O Lord, *Our actions* and further them by your gracious help, *so that every prayer and work of ours may always begin from you and through you be happily ended. *Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
St. Bede, Pray for us.

O God, source of all wisdom
I thank you

Enlighten my mind
and strengthen my will
during these years of my study.
Assist me in performing my duties.
May I never neglect my studies.
Help me persevere in my endeavour
till I reach my goal.

and behave honourably
choosing to do what is right
and pleasing in your sight.
May I always respect my parents,
teachers, elders and be loving
and kind to the weak and needy.
Bless me
and all who take special
interest in my growth.
Thank you for your love and care.
- Amen
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Spirit of the living God, enter our soul and make our hearts ready. By your light, illumine the darkness of our minds, by your fire warm our cold hearts, by your grace fill us with your power. May we see what is right, do what is good, Persevere in what is holy and live in your love, your peace and your joy. Amen.
PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIX
Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech You that You would impress upon my heart lively sentiments of Faith, Hope and Charity, with true repentance for my sins and a firm desire of amendment, whilst with deep affection and grief on soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate your five most precious wounds; having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophecy of You, O good Jesus: they have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones. Amen.
A PRAYER TO MOTHER MARY FOR PROGRESS IN STUDIES
Mother of divine Wisdom, your intercession has always helped me. I need your help now to make progress in my studies. I know I am slow in understanding, poor in more ways than I realize. I therefore choose you as my helper of my studies. Through your intercession may the Holy Spirit fill me with light and strength, intelligence and humility. Obtain for me a diligent and obedient Spirit, quickness of apprehension, capacity of retaining and the powerful assistance of grace to express myself with clarity and with persuasion. Grant that what I hear and learn I may use effectively to win disciples and friends for Jesus, my friend and leader. Amen.
PRAYER OF ST.FRANCIS OF ASSISI
Lord, make me an instrument of Your Peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow your love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light and
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek,
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. JOHN BOSCO
O St. John Bosco, Father and teacher of youth, you who laboured so much for the salvation of souls, be our guide in seeking the good of our souls, and the salvation of our neighbour. Help us to conquer our passions and all human respect; teach us to love Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, Mary Help of Christians and our Holy Father the Pope, and obtain for us from God the grace of happy death so that we may all be gathered together in heaven. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. DOMINIC SAVIO
O St. Dominic Savio, who learnt, at the school of Don Bosco, to pass in holiness the days of your youth, help us to follow in your love for Jesus, in your devotion to Mary, and in your zeal for souls. Grant that, resolving to die rather than offend God, we may attain everlasting happiness. Amen.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Lord Jesus Christ, you desire that Your Kingdom be preached to the end of the earth and for all time. Humbly, we beseech you inspire more young people to embrace the Salesian form of life, especially that of the Salesian brother. Guide and sustain, O loving Saviour all whom you have already consecrated to your service as priests and religious.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Jesus my Lord, I thank you, I praise you, and I worship you for this precious moment. In spite of my defects and failures, sin and selfishness you have come into my heart to show that you have forgiven my sins. For this I thank you Jesus my Saviour. I also thank you for accepting me as I am. Be my source of strength to carry out my daily activities. Be as a guardian in all my undertakings. Grant me the grace to live this day well.
A BIRTHDAY PRAYER
O God,/ I thank you for giving me another year of life./ I thank you for all the people/who have remembered me today,/and who have sent me cards,/letters, good wishes and presents./ I thank you for everything/which I have been enabled by you to do/and to be in the past year./ I thank you for all the experiences/of the past year;/For times of success/which will always be happy memories;/for times of failure/which reminded me of my weakness/and of my need of you;/for times of joy when the sun was shining;/for the times of sorrow which drove me to you./ Forgive me for the hours I have wasted;/for the chances I failed to take;/for the opportunities I missed in the past year./ Forgive me that I have not made of life/all that I might have made of it/and could have made of it;/and help me in the days which lie ahead/to make this the best year yet,/and in it to bring credit to myself,/happiness to my loved ones/and joy to you./ This I ask for Jesus' sake. Amen

PRAYER FOR SICK
Father of goodness and love; hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May they find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts.
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit
That my thoughts may all be holy,
Act in me, O Holy Spirit
That my work, too, may be holy,
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit
That I love, but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit
To defend all that is holy,
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit
That I always may be holy. St. Augustine
PRAYER FOR MISSIONARIES
O God, you have given us Don Bosco as a sign of your benevolent grace and as a prophet of your love among poor youth. Help us to be faithful to you and protect us with your power. Grant that every day we may learn to praise you alone, never turning a deaf ear to the cry of the suffering, the orphan, the needy, of those who have not yet been touched by your grace and of the young who spurn your liberation. Make us all missionaries of your Good News to bring to the world the true peace that comes through genuine progress and fraternal solidarity. Help us to live together in family spirit so that, together with those to whom we are sent, we may respond to your call to holiness. Amen.
