This enables them to be courageous, disciplined, self-confident and responsible. 2. JRC (Junior Red Cross)
The Junior Red Cross was established in Japan in 1922 for school going children (9-16 year-olds) JRC holds meetings in schools, with teachers as their leaders. Students can become members through their school. The YRC functions within the college system. The objectives of the group are: Protection of life, health promotion (including community health promotion), advocacy and inculcation of moral values and character building, service to others (community service), fostering world friendliness, education for peace and the dissemination of Red Cross principles.
The JRC and YRC leaders will be trained in basic health, hygiene, first aid, adolescent health, nutrition, immunization, HIV/AIDS education. They will choose specific activities to implement in their school and communities, such as establishing first aid posts, creating community health awareness, peer counselling and other community services in hospitals and other health centers.
3. Scouts and cubs
The Scouting programme has three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the "Aims of Scouting". They are character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. The ideals of boy Scouting are spelled out in the Scout Oath, the Scout Rules, the Scout Motto and the Scout Slogan. The goals are high, and as he reaches for them, he has some control over what and who he becomes. The Patrol Method gives the boy Scouts an experience in group living and participating citizenship. The scout becomes responsible for himself and for others. The outdoor programmes help him to love nature and practice conservation of nature's resources. The Advancement Method helps the boy to overcome obstacles and meet new challenges. It provides him with a lot of opportunities for personal growth and for leadership development. The uniform makes the Boy Scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive image in the various settings.
4. NSS - NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The Ministry of Education introduced National Service Scheme during 1969-70. The choice of the timing of its introduction was remarkably auspicious as 1969 was the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation to whom social service was almost a religion. Gandhi's suggestion was that the first duty of students should be not to treat the period of study as one of the opportunities for indulgence in intellectual luxury but for preparing themselves for dedication in services, and by that to uplift the life of villagers to a higher material and moral level.
The motto is "Not me, but you". Tamil Nadu was the first State to introduce NSS at the Higher Secondary school level in 1980. The main aim was to promote social consciousness and a sense of social responsibility, discipline and an awareness of the dignity of labour.
The activities include: improvement of campuses, education and recreation in various communities, programmes for working during emergencies (floods, earthquakes etc.), tree plantation, environment enrichment, constructive work in adopted villages and slums, work in welfare institutions, blood donations, adult and non-formal education, health and nutrition, family welfare, AIDS awareness campaigns, construction of durable assets, sustainable development with emphasis on wasteland development and watershed management.
The approach is: NSS attempts to establish meaningful links between campus and community, campus and villages, knowledge and action. This will be a special group of volunteers ready for any kind of good work. They will be trained for leadership and for service. Our country needs honest citizens and good leaders for all walks of life. This group will be specially trained in self-realization, peace, friendliness, and values like honesty, leadership and service skills. They will also work together with the JRC, Scouts, and Environment Club to keep our campus clean and to ensure discipline in the class-rooms and in other places. They will study about leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Dr. B.R Ambedkar, Nelson Mandela and others.
5. Environment club
The members of this club will be made aware of the problems related to environment. They will be guided to love and enjoy nature. They could organize and take part in seminars and workshops related to environmental degradation (road and industrial pollution, global warming, destruction of animal and bird species, environmental imbalance, evils of smoking, the wastage of water, rain water harvesting etc.). They will be involved in activities like "Clean and green city", preservation of cultural heritage, planting and maintaining trees, plants, grass etc., cleaning of the Marina beach, etc. They will also influence their peer group to love and respect nature and the environment.
6. Science club
The science club members try to imbibe a scientific mind and help others with their knowledge and skills. They are invited to experiment, and discover new ways of doing things and work on new inventions. They will help in organizing lectures and seminars through prominent scientists. They could organize educational tours to places like Kalpakkam, Ennore, the Planetarium etc. They will also be in-charge of the main science exhibition to be conducted in our school every year on a large scale. Students from the locality come to see the exibits and our students. Prizes are given for the best and innovative exhibits. This year being the Year of Physics they will be extra-active!

They will also provide us with musical support for all our school functions. Students from all religious will sing in harmony with each other in the choir.
