An impressive programme to bring about a social awareness among the students stressing on the importance of Environmental protection was held on 18th October, 2007. Mr. Mangalraj, Councillor of 144 ward was the Chief Guest and hoisted the school flag. He urged the students to realize the importance of getting value education which was denied to the past generations. Mr. Vinod Hari, President of Rotary Club, Chennai Mambalam emphasized the need for tree plantation because of the dwindling forest cover of Tamilnadu in particular and India is general. He also pointed out the hazards of Global warming due to the green house effect. The only solution, he stressed, is the planting of more trees. Mrs. Vijaya Sundaram graced the function.
On the eventful day 300 saplings were planted in the St. Bede’s Grounds behind the All India Radio. Moreover 300 saplings were given free to the students to be planted in the gardens of their own homes. The Chief Guest and the other dignitaries distributed the saplings to the students. This is a step taken by the management to instill awareness about the importance of tree plantation and caring about them in the minds of young students.
Master Godfrey administered an Oath to all the students pledging their affirmation to protect the Environment.
Rev. Fr. John Peter, sdb Dean of Studies had welcomed the gathering. Master Amit Antony, Vice School Pupil Leader proposed the vote of thanks.
