Dr. A.M. Chinnapa, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu, Provincial of the Salesians, Chennai province gave the centenary inaugural speech. Dr. Oscar Nigli, the nominated Anglo-Indian MLA of Tamil Nadu gave the felicitations. Rev.Fr. Joe Andrew SDB, Rector and Correspondent of St. Bede’s welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Michael, the Headmaster presented the annual report of the school in the presence of the chief guests.
His Grace Dr. A.M Chinnapa in his centenary address invited all those present to be like Don Bosco who worked for the poor and marginalized. Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu said he was happy the school was involved in several social outreach programmes. Mr. Oscar Nigli said that the Salesians greatly contributed towards the cause of Education and health of the poor. During the function, prizes, awards, certificates and presents were awarded to the winners of the various classes. The Rectors, Headmasters and other Salesians who have worked in St.Bede’s were the special invitees of the concluding celebration.
The students of the primary section performed a welcome dance. The students of the middle school presented a pageant show high lighting the important milestones in the history of the school while the senior students numbering nearly a hundred presented a musical titled ‘The Yellow Umbrella.’ The tiny tots of the school bid farewell to the centenary with a song and dance sequence. Master Anthony Amit Aga Adam, Vice School Pupil Leader proposed the vote of thanks. The grand centenary celebration came to a close at 9.30 p.m. with a great and astounding fireworks display.
